Reina Sofia Museum Entry Ticket

The Reina Sofía Museum is within easy walking distance from most central Madrid neighborhoods, including Lavapiés, Huertas and the Paseo del Prado — approximately 10–15 minutes from Puerta del Sol.

Several bus lines stop near the museum, including lines 6, 10, 14, 19, 26, 27, 32, 34, 36, 41 and 57. The Atocha bus stop is just steps away from the museum entrance.

Take line 1 to Atocha station or line 3 to Lavapiés station. The museum is just a few minutes' walk from both stations.

Atocha train station is located directly next to the museum, making it the most convenient option if arriving from outside Madrid or from the airport.

The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía is Spain's national museum of modern and contemporary art and one of the most important art institutions in the world. Founded in 1988 and housed in a stunning 18th-century hospital building — the Sabatini Building — later expanded by the architect Jean Nouvel with the striking steel and glass Nouvel Building, the museum is home to an extraordinary collection of over 21,000 works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries. Its collections focus primarily on Spanish art, with particular strength in the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, Surrealism, and post-war and contemporary art.

Picasso's Guernica is universally regarded as one of the most powerful and moving works of art ever created, and the undisputed highlight of the Reina Sofía's collection. Painted in 1937 in response to the Nazi bombing of the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, the monumental canvas, measuring 3.49 by 7.76 meters, depicts the suffering of civilians in one of the most haunting and emotionally devastating images in the history of art. Guernica has become an enduring symbol of the horrors of war and a timeless call for peace.

• Book your tickets well in advance, especially between April and October when the museum is at its busiest
• Allow at least 3–4 hours to explore the permanent collection comfortably — the museum covers an enormous amount of ground

• Wednesday to Monday (closed on Tuesdays): 10:00 to 19:00
• Sundays: 10:00 to 14:30

Important: Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Visitors must leave the galleries by 20:45 from Monday to Saturday and by 15:45 on Sundays.

Closed on public holidays: January 1 and 6, May 1 and 15, November 10 and December 24, 25 and 31. The dates of May 15 and November 10 may be modified in accordance with the working calendar of the Community of Madrid.
